Abstract
Objective To observe the influence of irbesartan on urinary transforming growth factor-beta1(TGF-β_1) in early diabetic nephropathy and explore their therapeutic mechanism. Methods Seventy-tow type 2 diabetic patients with early diabetic nephropathy were randomly divided into control group and irbesartan treatment group. Urinary albumin excretion and urinary TGF-β_1 was measured. Results Urinary albumin excretion and urinary TGF-β_1 levels in irbesartan treatment group were significantly decreased after 12 weeks treatment. Conclusion Irbesartan have renoprotective effect in patients with early diabetic nephropathy. The decrease of TGF-β_1 concentration in renal tissue may be a mechanism for this action.
