Abstract
The activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),peroxidase(POD)and malonyldialdehyde(MDA) were determined in hepatopancreas in oriental weatherfish Misgurnus anguillicaudatus exposed to different concentrations [0.025 mg Cd(Ⅱ)/L,0.25 mg Cd(Ⅱ)/L and 2.5 mg Cd(Ⅱ)/L] of Cadmium chloride(Cd(Ⅱ)) to evaluate the effects of cadmium(Ⅱ) stress on xanthine oxidase and antionxidant enzyme activities.The results showed that there were significant increase in SOD activity in the fish exposed to 0.025 mg Cd(Ⅱ)/L,with the procedure,but no significant changes in activities of CAT,and POD and MDA content.In the high concentration groups(0.25 and 2.5 mg Cd(Ⅱ)/L),however,the antioxidant enzyme activities increased at first and then decreased,the higher the Cd(Ⅱ) concentration,more rapidly and earlier the antioxidant enzyme activities increased.SOD activity was found to be sensitive to Cd(Ⅱ) concentration and time changes,followed by CAT and POD activities,and opposite to SOD activity,and MDA content.
