Comment of Outpatient Prescription and Analysis of Irrational Drug Use

Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To conduct a spot check on the outpatient prescriptions in an effort to probe in to the irrational drug use and improve clinical rational drug use level.METHODS: A total of 2 000 outpatient prescriptions randomly collected between May 2010 and February 2011 in our hospital were reviewed to screen the irrational prescriptions,with representative ones analyzed.RESULTS: Of all the prescriptions reviewed,7.3%(146/2 000) were irrational.The irrationality manifested as inconformity between drug use and diagnosis,drug interactions,improper in dosage and route of administration,and repeated administration of the drugs of the same kind etc.CONCLUSION: Essential measures aimed at strengthening communication between pharmacists and physicians and improving pharmacists' capability in prescription comments should be taken to improve clinical drug use level.
