Abstract

Applied to foreign language reading, metacognition refers to the regulation of reading processes, namely reading monitoring, which occurs through the actions of and interactions among metacognitive knowledge, metacognitive experiences and metacognitive strategies.Among the three elements, metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive strategies play a critical role in the regulation of reading processes while metacognitive experiences indirectly take part in the activity, only serving as a bridge. The cultivation of students' metacognitive ability contributes to the improvement of their foreign language reading proficiency.
