Abstract
This paper discusses the place and role of general education in what is named and practiced in the Chinese university as “cultural quality-oriented education”.Basing its arguments on a survey of cultural quality-oriented education over the last ten years in a number of Chinese top universities, the paper proposes that the two are complementary with each other,as general education facilitates a platform for conducting and promoting cultural quality-oriented education whereas the latter's educational idea should be implemented in the operation of the former.
