Abstract

The experimental study on the acoustical performance of a muffler was carried out under the two conditions of having and having no airflow on the self-built muffler static test platform, and subsequently the flow field inside the muffler was simulated and analyzed with CFD method according to the experiment.Studies show that the noise elimination quantity is rarely affected in a certain airflow speed ranges and but will decrease with the increase of airflow velocity beyond some ranges,it is also found that the muffler pressure loss will increase when airflow velocity is beyond ranges.Accordingly, the airflow velocity and internal structure of muffler are important elements of influencing muffler performance.
