Clinical experience of treatment of ureteral calculi with ureteroscopy

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect of ureteroscopy in the management of ureteral calculi. Methods: The clinical data of 91 patients with ureteral stones treated with ureteroscopy from January 2000 to July 2003 were analyzed retrospectively. Results:Of 91 cases of ureteral stone, 87.9 %(80/91) stones were evacuated in one treatment session. Complications were observed in 6.6 %(6/91) cases ,mainly urosepsis and perforation. Conclusions:Ureteroscopy combined with the Swiss lithoclast pneumatic lithotriptor or ureteral clip has been a safe, effective and less invasive method in the management of ureteral calculi ,especially the stones located at the low segment of the ureter.
