Depression in Patients with Maintenance Hemodialysis and Nursing Intervention

Objective To investigate the problem of depression in patients with maintenance hemodialysis and discuss nursing intervention in such patients.Methods The level of depression was tested by Zun self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) in sixty patients under maintenance hemodialysis and nursing intervention was performed accordingly.Results 50 of the 60 patients (83.3%) had varying degrees of depression. The condition decreased to 35% after nursing intervention.Conclusion Positive nursing intervention should be performed according to the depression status of individual patients so as to improve the outcome of hemodialysis, alleviate adverse reactions arising from hemodialysis,and prolong life of hemodialytic patients.
