A clinical study of vitrectomy for the treatment of early-stage severe traumatic vitreous hemorrhage.

Abstract

Objective To determine the proper timing for vitrectomy to treat severe traumatic vitreous hemorrhage.Methods Vitrectomy were performed respectively to each 62 cases with severe traumatic vitreous hemorrhage in early stage (2~4 weeks) as research group and in latestage (5~12 weeks) as control group,combined with related surgery to treat the complications due to the hemorrhage.A clinical contrast study was done.Results In research group, the post operative visual acuity improved obviously,70.9% above practical acuity improved, and few complications occurred, while in control group only 59.6% above practical acuity improved, and more complications occurred.Conclusions Vitrectomy is an effective method to treat early stage severe traumatic vitreous hemorrhage.The proper timing for surgery is 2~4 weeks after injury.Early operation results in better visual acuity recovery and fewer complications comparing with late operation.
