Hupei 1——a new triploid seedless grape cultivar obtained by embryo culture

Hupei 1 is a new triploid seedless grape cultivar,derived from the cross between the diploid seedless grapes cultivar Himrod seedless and the tetraploid cultivar Kyoho. The hybrid triploid plant were obtained by means of in vitro ovule culture. Root tip cells of plantlets derived from such diploid x tetraploid had 57 chromosomes. Its fruit cluster is of conic form and weights 400 g on average. Berries are ellipse in form,having a light red or light green skin,weighing 5.0 to 6.8 g,containing a soluble solids content of 15% to 18% with a pleasant flavor,of very good eating quality. It matures in early August at Shanghai area. The vines are moderately productive,having a higher resistance to diseases.
