Abstract
Although influenced by Rousseau's thoughts of returning to nature,Yu Dafu,by pushing to the power of life, emphasizes expressing life through truth in art and advocates performing the social effects of literature on the basis of maintaining its artistic value. He treats nature as a spiritual habitat for novel characters thus makes it personified nature. However,Rousseau treats nature as a reference material when criticizing modern society. His emphasis is on expressing life through a simple style. He takes his stand on the educating role of novel creation and tries every means to reflect the beauty of nature.Placed in the situation where China was suffering from poverty and hardship,Yu Dafu,as an artist, consciously developed and broke through Rousseau's thoughts when absorbing them.
