Abstract
Objective To investigate the impact of the atorvastatin on the expression of MMP-9 in the brain tissue after ischemia/reperfusion(I/R)injury.Methods Rats were subjected to cerebral I/R injury through the occlusion of the middle cerebral artery.Neurological deficits were determined by Longa's score. The expression of MMP-9 was detected by immuno-histochemical analysis, and the expression of MMP-9 mRNA was detected by the in situ hybridization method. Results The expression of MMP-9 mRNA and protein in the ischemic territory increased after cerebral ischemia(P0.01),peaking at 24h after ischemia.Atorvastatin could decrease the expression of MMP-9 mRNA and protein(P0.05)and improve the Longa's score(P0.05).Conclusions Atorvastatin-calcium protect the(brain tissue against ischemia reperfusion injury through inhibiting the expression of MMP-9 after focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion in rats.
