Awareness of AIDS-related Knowledge Among Populations in Guilin

Abstract

Objective To survey the awareness of AIDS-related knowledge among population in Guilin and explore the measures of prevention and control of AIDS and reduce the discrimination to AIDS patient.Methods Questionnaire survey was conducted among 261 urban and rural residents,302 students and 304 migrant workers.Results The overall awareness rate of AIDS-related knowledge was 77.45%(88.12% for urban residents,74.12% for rural residents,82.12% for students,and 66.45% for migrant workers).The awareness rate of AIDS transmission route was higher,but the awareness rate of other AIDS-related knowledge was lower,especially the awareness of 'AIDS wouldn't be transmitted by mosquito bite' was poor.AIDS-related knowledge as mainly obtained from television show,newspaper,book and poster.Conclusion It necessary to conduct various health education to improve the people's understanding to AIDS and the control of AIDS epidemic.
