Plasma adiponectin and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes

Objective The correlation between plasma adiponectin and insulin resistance was investigated in order to explore the role of adiponectin in type2 diabetes.Methods 88 subjects were included in this study,including 30 non-obese diabetes patients with normal weight(BMI25 kg/m 2) and obese diabetes patients(BMI25 kg/m 2) and 28 health control.According to the typical HOMA model insulin resistance index was calculated.ELISA technique was employed to determine the plasma adiponectin concentration.The levels of blood lipid were assayed by turbidimetry.Finally to analysis the correlation of plasma adiponectin and body mass index(BMI)and blood lipid and insulin resistance.Results (1)The levels of plasma adiponectin were significantly decreased in diabetes group compared with control group( P 0.01);moreover,the adiponectin concentration of obese diabetes group were significantly decreased compared withnon-obese diabetes group( P 0.01).(2)Plasma adiponectin correlated negatively with BMI,fasting insulin,insulin resistance index and triglyceride.Conclusion Plasma adiponectin take apart in the etiological factor of insulin resistance,so it is related intimately to diabetes.It could be used as a new sensitive indicator to evaluate the degree of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes.
