Abstract

The inhibitory activities of α-glucosidase of different extracts from different parts of Coptis chinensis were assayed in vitro and the results were compared with Acarbose as positive control. The results showed that different parts of C.chinensis all had activity, and the rhizome ethyl acetate extract had the highest inhibitor activity of α-glucosidase (IC50 =20.72 μg/mL),which is more lower than that of Acarbose (IC50=1081.27 μg/mL).The petroleum ether extract of seeds (IC50=40.86 μg/mL) and the petroleum ether extract of leaves (IC50=62.85 μg/mL)also showed high activity. In the four parts of C.chinensis, the extracts of rhizome showed highest activity.Different polar solvent extracts of same part also showed different activity, petroleum ether and methanol extracts generally had higher inhibitory activity than that of the ethyl acetate extract.
