Abstract
A new catalytic spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace amounts of copper was developed. The method is based on catalysing effect of copper on decoloring reaction of safranine O oxidized by hydrogen peroxide in NH_3·H_2O-NH_4Cl medium. The optimum conditions and the kinetic parameters were studied. The linear range is 0.015~6 ng/mL for copper with detection limit of 0.15 ng/mL.The method has been applied to the determination of trace amounts of copper in distilled water and NaOH samples with satisfactory results.
