Abstract

Objective To discuss the complications of porous hydroxyapatite orbital implant and its management measures. Methods In twentity five cases, the hydroxyapatites were implanted after primary enucleation or evisceration.Another 8 cases of secondary implantation were performed.Complications were detected and treated during the follow up 3 to 24 months. Results In the series of thirty three patients, complications included 5 cases of implant exposures,2 cases of enopthalmos,2 cases of ptosis,1 case of laxity, and 1 case of fornix insufficiency. Conclusion The major complications of hydroxyapatite orbital implants can be avoided and managed.
