Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of carcinoembryonic atigen(CEA),the tumor type M2-pyruvate kinase(TuM2-PK),adenosine deaminase(ADA) and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) in the differential diagnosis of pleural effusion.Methods The levels of tumor markers of CEA and TuM2-PK in pleural effusion were measured in 36 patients with malignant pleural effusion and 38 patients with benign pleural effusion by ELISA method.ADA and LDH were detected by enzymatic method.Results The pleural effusion levels of CEA and TuM2-PK in patients with lung cancer were significantly higher than those with benign effusion(P0.01).The pleural effusion levels of ADA in patients with lung cancer were significantly lower than those with benign effusion(P0.05).The pleural effusion levels of LDH in patients with lung cancer were not significantly compared with benign effusion(P0.05).Conclusion Combined detection of CEA,TuM2-PK and ADA in pleural effusion is helpful for diagnosis of malignant pleural effusion.
