Abstract
Objective To study the clinical significance of serum procalcitonin(PCT)and C-reactive protein(CRP)in neonatal infection.Methods The serum PCT and CRP were detected and compared among 90 cases of neonatal infection including 35 cases of severe infection with systemic symptoms and 55 cases of local infection without systemic symptoms,with 30 cases of non-infectious disease as the controls(control group).Based on the bacterial culture and serological test results,the 90 cases of neonatal infection were divided into the bacterial infection group(57cases)and non-bacterail infection group(33cases).ResultsCompared with control group,the serum levels of CRP,PCT and WBC count were significantly increased in the severe infection group and local infection group(P0.05);compared with the local infection group,the serum levels of CRP,PCT and WBC count in the severe infection group were significantly increased(P0.05);compared with the non-bacterail infection group,the serum CRP and PCT levels before treatment were significantly higher in the bacterial infection group(P0.05);compared with the pre-treatment data,the serum CRP and PCT levels were obviously decreased after treatment in the bacterial infection group(P0.05).Conclusion The detection of CRP and PCT can help to make the diagnosis and efficacy assessment of neonatal infection disease,and dynamically monitor the severity of infection and infection control.
