Effects of different crowns on the periodontal tissue of the restored teeth

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects of different crowns on the periodontal tissue of the restored teeth.Methods: Fifteen teeth with Au-Pt alloy PFM and fifteen teeth with zirconia all-ceramic crowns of twenty-six patients were involved in the study.The patients were recalled 6 and 12 months after the placement of the zirconia all-ceramic crowns and the Au-Pt alloy PFM.The gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) samples were collected by filter paper strips.The weight of GCF and the concentration of GCF MMP-8 were detected.Then the gingival crevicular depth(GCD) was recorded.Results: Compared to pre-restoration,the GCD,the weight of GCF and the concentration of MMP-8 in GCF had no conspicuous difference in zirconia all-ceramic crowns groups after 6 or 12 months.Compared to pre-restoration,the indexes had no conspicuous difference in Au-Pt PFM groups after 6 months,however,they had marked difference after 12 months.Conclusion: Patients with Zirconia all-ceramic crowns have no apparently negative influences on gingival health of the restored teeth.
