Therapeutic effect of indigenous L-carnitine on acute viral myocarditis

Abstract

AIM:To observe the therapeutic effect of L-carnitine(L-CN) on acute viral myocarditis.METHODS: Eighty patients with viral myocarditis were randomly divided into L-CN group and the control group.The control group received routine treatment,and L-CN group received L-CN(3.0 g/d,VD×14 d)in addition to the routine treatment.RESULTS: In L-CN group,52.5% recovered compared with 30.0% in the control group(P0.05).Among more serious patients,3 months after the treatment,(52.9%) recovered,29.4% showed no arrhythmia and 69.2% showed improved LVEF,with significant differences from the control(P0.05).CONCLUSION: L-carnitine combined with routine therapy might be a safe an effective way in the treatment of viral myocarditis.
