Abstract

Objective:To compare the discriminatory ability between phage typing and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE) in Salmonella enteritidis.Methods:83 strains of Salmonella enteritidis from patients and food were typed by nine Salmonella phages and PFGE with XbaI as the restriction enzyme.Results:83 strains of Salmonella enteritidis were divided into 4 types by phage typing and 19 types by PFGE,respectively. The same phage type of Salmonella enteritidis can be divided into different types by PFGE.Conclusion:PFGE shows higher discriminatory ability in the subtype of Salmonella enteritidis than phage typing.PFGE is still the gold standard for typing Salmonella enteritidis.PFGE is suitable for molecular epidemiological investigation for food poisoning.
