Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression of PTEN and STAT3 in colorectal carcinoma and its clinical significance. Methods: Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of PTEN and STAT3 proteins in 68 cases of colorectal carcinoma and 20 cases of normal colorectal tissue. And to analyze their relationship with clinicopathological features. Results: The positive rates of PTEN and STAT3 expression were 32.4%,60.3%,in 68 cases of colorectal carcinoma,90.0% and 0 in 20 cases of normal colorectal tissue. The expression of the 2 proteins were correlated with histological type, depths of invasion,Dukes classification and lymph node metastasis(P0.01),but no relationship with tumor size, sex and age. Moreover, there was a negative correlation between the expression of PTEN and STAT3(P0.05).Conclusion: The expression of PTEN and STAT3 in colorectal carcinoma can be used as possible marker to judge the malignancy degree, metastasisand prognosis.
