Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and side effect of mirtazapine in the treatment of depression. Method:56 out-patients and in-patients were divided to two groups,treated by mirtazapine and paroxetine respectively for 6 weeks.Hamilton depression scale (HAMD),clinical global inpression scale severity of illness (CGI-SI) and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS)were used to evaluate the effecacy and side effect. Results:Scores of HAMD and CGI-SI were significantly lower in mirtazepine group than those in paroxetine group in 1 and 2 weeks after treatment (P005).Both groups were similar in efficacies at the end of treatment.Side effects of both groups were mild. Conclusion:Mirtazapine is a safe and effective antidepressant.It has faster efficacy.
