On Discriminating the Origin and Development of Prose in May 4 Movement

Zhou Zuo-ren thought that the Literature Revolution of May 4 Movement was the renaiscence of Literature and Art Movement of historic Yanzhi School,and the origin and development of the contemporary prose of China was made up of essays in later Ming dynasty and English essays.His viewpoint has affected the research of the contemporary prose deeply.With the advent of popular leisure and lyric essays these years,this viewpoint was especially detailed further.However,from the point of the historic language environment in May 4 Movement,cultural psychology,literature concept and reading acceptance of view,the effect of prose in later Ming dynasty was limited,and it affected essays and prose at most in the diversity of literature style especially the essays and prose of Yanzhi school.The prose of May 4 Movement laid a foundation for Chinese traditional excellent prose while it carried on the new style in the end of Qing Dynasty.It mainly absorbed English and French prose concept conscientiously and used experience of foreign prose initiatively,so its theoretical construction and the attempt of prose style was completed for itself,therefore it acquired the contemporary character.
