Abstract
Objective]To determine the bacteriostatic effects of cosmetic antiseptic, and to assesse the accuracy of the assay results.[Methods]The bacteriostatic effects of three kinds of cosmetic antiseptic,of which two were kathon and one was Bronopol,on observed standard bacteria, such as E.coli ATCC 8099,steph aureus ATCC 6538,Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and aspergillus niger ATCC 16404,treated by different antiseptic concentrations of 0.04%,0.06%,0.08%,0.1% and 0.2% and with different exposure periods of 6,24 and 48 hours, and 14 days, were determined with disc paper assay and antiseptic effectiveness assay.[Results]The bacteriostatic effective concentrations of kathon 1,kathon 2 and Bronopol dectected by disc paper assay were 0.1%,0.06% and 0.2% respectively, invalid antiseptic effectiveness dectected by disc paper assayas only observed in stephaureus, condida albicans and aspergillus niger exposed to Bronopol. The bacteriostatic effective concentrations detected by antiseptic effectiveness assay were 0 04%,0 04% and 0 2% for E.coli treated by three kinds of observed antiseptic mentioned above.[Conclusion]Compared with disc paper assay, the antiseptic effectiveness asscey, reflecting the synthetic effects of chemical compositions of cosmetic on the antiseptic effectiveness, was suitable for determining the bacteriostatic effects of cosmetic antiseptic.
