Abstract

Shanxi Merchants are a legendary business group in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.They not only founded the brilliant business empire,but also created the profound Spirit and Culture of Shanxi Merchants.With the vast fortune richer than a country,they returned home and built the Grand Courtyards there,which symbolized their wealth and status.The Grand Courtyards also represent historical and cultural connotation to a higher degree,including classical form of Architecture,ideology of Confucianism,clan mentality of visualization,traditional social thoughts.The historical culture created in the Shanxi Merchants Houses is worth studying and thinking.
