Abstract

Objective To understand the serotype features of rotavirus in Guangzhou. Methods Stool samples of diarrhea patients aged under 5 years from five monitoring hospitals in Guangzhou during January to December,2009 were collected,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELASA) and nested reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(Nest RT-PCR) were adopted for RV antigen detection and serotyping. Results Totally 361 stool samples were collected from diarrhea clinics,in which 146(40.44%) rotavirus-positive samples were detected. The positive rate of males was 39.04%(89 /228),of females was 42.86%(57 /133).A peak age distribution of rotavirus diarrhea was 7 to 12 months old(45.21%).Rotavirus infection peaked in autumn and winter(in January,October,November,December).Among 132 strains performed with G,the most epidemic type was G1(43.94 %),followed by G3(28.03%),G1 + G3(24.24%),G9(1.52%),G1 + G9 (0.76%),G1+G3+G9(0.76%) and untypable strain(0.76%).Among 132 strains performed with P,the most epidemic type was P [8](47.73%),followed by P [4](25.76%),P [4]+P [8](23.48%),untypable strain(1.52%) and P [6] + P [8] (0.76%).Among the combined serotypes, the most common combined serotype was G1P [8](33),followed by G3P [8](18).Conclusion Rotavirus is the main pathogen of infantile diarrhea in Guangzhou in 2009.The positive rate of rotavirus infection between the male and female had no difference. The RV incidence peaked in autumn and winter, and the peak age distribution of rotavirus diarrhea was 7 to 12 months old.Rotavirus serotype G1,P [8] and the combined serotype G3P [8] were prevalent strains during 2009 in Guangzhou.
