Abstract

The language takes root in the cognitive structure. Metaphor is one kind of important cognitive pattern. This article indicates the study of metaphor can not be limited to the traditional rhetoric category but extended to the category of pragmatics to illustrate its social functions, especiallyits social intercourse function.
