Changes in semen of chronic prostatitis patients

Abstract
Objective To investigate the changes in semen of chronic prostatitis patients and their impact on the fertile status. Methods The semen of 86 chronic prostatitis patients and 32 fertile volunteers were analyzed,and the main semen parameters of two groups were compared. Results The mean semen volume, sperm motility and normal sperm morphology of the prostitis patients were 2.08 ml,65.43% and 62.14% respectively,significantly lower than those of fertile men( P = 0.003 , P 0.001 and P 0.001),but sperm density of these patients was not significantly lower than that of the fertiles( P =0.922). Conclusions Some unknown factors might impair the functions of prostate in patients with prostatitis,and may be responsible for the poorer quality of semen in these patients.No significant effect on fertility has been observed in this study.
