Analysis About the Cost and Effect of Nifedipine,Captopril or Combination of both Treatment in Patients with Essential Hypertension

Aim To analyse the cost and effect of nifedipine, captopril or combined treatment used as anti-essential hypertension therapy programs. Methods This study was a randomised single blind controlled clinical trial conducted in outpatient. The trial randomised 330 patients with mild to moderate hypertension aged 18～70 years were divided into three treatment groups: captopril (50 mg daily) group, nifedipine (40 mg daily) group, and captopril+nifedipine group for a mean follow up of 8 week. Results The effects of captopril group and nifedipine group after 8 week administration had similar result. But there was significant difference in blood pressure between captopril+nifedipine group and captopril or nifedipine group. Conclusion Nifedipine combined with captopril lowers blood pressure sufficiently to achieve therapeutic goal in most patients with hypertension.
