The value of LEEP in diagnosis and treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia

Objective To evaluate the value of loop electrosurgical excision procedure(LEEP) in diagnosis and treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.Methods Six hundred and seventy-four cases with cervical intraepithelial neoplasm diagnosed by biopsy were treated by LEEP.The prognosis and changes of pathological grades were studied.Results The operation time lasted 4~18 min and the median was 8 min.The amount of blood loss was 5~25 ml and the median was 9 ml.The pathological grade went up in 63 cases(9.4%) and had no change in 220 cases(32.6%) while grade went down in 391 cases(58%).Margin specimens were involved in 50 cases(7.73%).The following up curative rate was 98.7%.Conclusion LEEP has important value in diagnosis and treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia,it is the first choice for the treatment of CIN.
