Abstract
Objective To investigate the correlation between p21 gene expression in pterygium and clinical pathological characteristic, which may provide the theoretical evidence for better treatment of pterygium. Methods Immunohistochemical S-P staining method was used to detect the expression of p21 in 62 cases of pterygia and 20 cases of normal conjunctival tissue.Relationship between expression of p21 and clinical pathological characteristic was analyzed. Results The positive expression rate of p21 in pterygia was 40.3%(25/62) compared to 70.0%(14/ 20)in normal conjunctival tissue(P0.05).Further analysis indicated that the expression of p21 was correlated with clinical types and stages(P0.05),there was no relation between expression of p21 and other clinicopathological indexs(P0.05).Conclusion The expression of p21 was decreased according to clinical type or stage of pterygium.
