Abstract

Objective:To investigate the role of P53 and P21 in the occurrence and development of humen pterygium. Methods:The immunohistochemical was used to examine P53 and P21 expression in 30 cases of pterygium and other 30 of normal conjunctiva. Results:The positiveexpressions of P53 and P21 in pterygium were 45.12 and 15.50;and in normal conjunctivawere 15.88 和 45.50.The expression of P53 and P21 between the pterygium and normal conjunctiva were statistically signifcantboth(P0.01).Conclusions:The expression of P53 and P21 were both positive in pterygium and normal conjunctiva. The expression of P53in pterygium was significantly higher than in normal conjunctiva, and the expression of P21in pterygium was significantly lower than in normal conjunctiva. These data demonstrated that P53 and P21 may play an important role in the incidence and development pterygium.
