A comparative study of ziprasidone and quetiapine in the treatment of schizophrenia with predominantly negative symptoms

Abstract

Objective To compare the efficacy and side effects of ziprasidone and quetiapine in the treatment of schizophrenia with predominantly negativesymptoms.Methods Eighty-one schizophrenia inpatients with predominantly negativesymptomswere randomlyassigned to ziprasidone group or quetiapine group.The efficacy and side effects were evaluated with PANSS,SANS,CGI and TESS.ResultsThere was no significant difference in efficacy between the two groups.Ziprasidone had fewer side effects than quetiapine.ConclusionZiprasidone is an effective and safe medicine in the treatment of schizophrenia with predominantly negative symptoms.
