The relationship between insulin resistance and adiponectin in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between adiponectin and insulin resistance(IR) in the gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM). Methods Homeostasis model assessment was adopted to evaluate IR index in the GDM and the normal glucose tolerance pregnancies(NGT).Radioimmunoassay was applied to detect the serum adiponectin level in the two groups.Results ⑴HOME-IR in the GDM group was significantly higher than those in the NGT(P0.01).⑵the serum adiponectin level in the GDM group was significantly lower than those in the NGT(P0.01).⑶The multivariate regression analysis revealed that the serum adiponectin was correlated significantly with insulin resistance and third trimester BMI(P0.05).Conclusion The serum adiponectin level in the GDM decreases significantly and it is significantly negatively correlated with IR.
