Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) in epithelial ovarian cancer tissue, and understand its clinical significance. Methods:The expression of COX-2 were examined in epithelial ovarian cancer, benign ovarian neoplasm and normal tissue controls by immunohistochemical staining. Then the relationship between the expression of COX-2 in human ovarian epithelial cancer and its clinical pathologic parameters was aggregate analyzed by SPSS 13.0 software. Results:The expression of COX-2 in epithelial ovarian cancer 78%(39/50) was higher than that in normal ovarian tissue 10%(1/10),the difference was statistically significance(P0.01).The expression of COX-2 was correlated with histological differentiation, lymphnode metastasis and prognosis(P0.05),but not with age, clinical stage and histological types(P0.05).Conclusion:The expression of COX-2 in epithelial ovarian cancer is significantly higher than that in normal ovarian tissue and benign ovarian neoplasm,it plays a key role in progression and metastasis of epithelial ovarian cancer. The over expression of COX-2 may serve as an useful marker for assessment of the biological behavior of epithelial ovarian cancer and may helpful for assessing the malignancy prognosis.
