Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To understand the cancer knowledge of residents and their requirements for prevention and treatment in Meizhou city district,in order to give the basis to develop a cancer prevention and treatment network. METHODS:Five hundred and sixteen 35-65 year old persons (male 285,female 231) were sampled systematically and investigated for their knowledge about cancer and requirements for cancer prevention and treatment,and the data were analyzed.RESULTS:The residents were concerned to cancer but their knowledge about cancer was incomplete and not confirmed.The sources to cancer knowledge were different among different age,education level residents.The requirements of the residents for cancer prevention and treatment were very serious.CONCLUSIONS:It is necessary to have health education for cancer and the methods of health education should be in accordance with the residents’ages and education levels.
