Abstract

Objective: To investigate the clinical value of tissue Doppler Tei index in the evaluation of right ventricular function in patients with hypertension.Methods:Sixty-one patients with mild/moderate hypertension were divided into 2 groups.Thirty-one patients with normal left ventricular mass index(LVMI) were studied in group A,Thirty patients with increased LVMI in group B,and 30 healthy subjects served as control group. The conventional echo-Doppler parameters assessed included the LVEDD,E/A ratio and ejection fraction(EF).The mitral annulus motion was obtained by tissue Doppler imaging(TDI).The peak systolic and early and late diastolic velocities were measured respectively. The Tei index by TDI were calculated. Results:Compared to control group, the Tei index of RV in hypertension group was significantly increased(P0.05).The Em,Am and Em/Am of the study groups were significantly lower than that of control group,E/A ratio in groups A and B was all less than 1(P0.05)The Tei index in groups A and B was all greater than the control group and progressively increased(P0.001).Conclusion The Tei index would be valuable and simple for estimating the left ventricular systolic and diastolic functions with high sensitivity in hypertension patients.
