Abstract

Objective To study the efficacy of coil embolization in the treatment of ruptured anterior circulation aneurysms. Methods A retrospective analysis was made in 20 patients with ruptured anterior circulation aneurysms. All patients received detachable coil embolization for the treatment of aneurysms. Results All 20 patients received successful embolizations.Among them,16 patients with narrow neck aneurysm received detachable coil embolization, and 4 patients with wide neck aneurysm to received coil embolization with auxiliary stent. The immediate angiography results showed that 19 patients had complete embolism, one patient had residual neck, and no patient had residual aneurysm. No bleeding and thrombotic complications occurred.During the follow-up period of 3 to 12 months in 16 cases,no recurrence of aneurysm was found. The modified Rankin scale(MRS)score was 0 in 10 cases,1 in 9 cases and 2 in just one case. Conclusion Coil embolization is a safe and effective method in the treatment of anterior circulation aneurysms.Improving the density of aneurysm embolization is the key factor to prevent recurrence.
