Expression of Runx3 and p27 and their significance in gastric carcinoma

Purpose To investigate the expression of Runx3 and p27 proteins in gastric carcinoma,and their relationship to the biological behavior of gastric carcinoma.Methods The expression of Runx3 and p27 was determined by immunohistochemistry SABC method in 8 cases of normal gastric mucosa tissue,15 atypical hyperplasia of gastric mucosa,and 47 cases gastric carcinoma.Results(1)The positive expression rates of Runx3 and p27 were 87.5%,53.3%,36.2% and 87.5%,66.7%,44.7% in gastric carcinoma,atypical hyperplasia and normal gastric mucosa,respectively.The expression of Runx3 was positively correlated with the histological type,depth of tumor infiltration,lymph node metastasis(P0.05);the expression of p27 was also positively correlated with the depth of tumor infiltration,clinical stage and lymph node metastasis(P0.05).(2)There was a positive correlation between the expression Runx3 and p27 in normal gastric mucosa(P0.025,r=0.585 2)and gastric carcinoma tissue(P0.05,r=0.426 4).Conclusions Runx3,p27 may play certain roles in the carcinogenesis and progression of gastric carcinoma,and combined detection for Runx3 and p27 expression could reflect the malignant biological behaviour of gastric carcinoma.
