Experimental Studies on the Treatment of SLE with Tripterygium wilfordii Dilayer Tablet and Its Mechanisms

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the mechanism of Tripterygium wilfordii Dilayer Tablet in treating SLE in order to make verification of that Tripterygium wilfordii Dilayer Tablet is an effective drug used in the treatment of SLE. Methods:The response of Arthus in rabbits and Adjuvant arthritis in rats were observed. Results:Our results shows that: (1) Tripterygium wilfordii Dilayer Tablet can inhibit the response of Arthus and increase levels of serum CIC,serum IL-2 in rabbits.(2) Tripterygium wilfordii Dilayer Tablet had markedly inhibitory effect on secondary reaction of Adjuvant arthritis in rats.It increased the weight of adrenal and splen while decreasing the content of plasma hydrocortisone in rats of Adjuvant arthritis.Conclusion: Tripterygium wilfordii Dilayer Tablet has good effects on SLE. The mechanism of Tripterygium wilfordii Dilayer Tablet in the treatment of SLE not only owe to increasing levels of serum IL-2, inhibitory effect on Th cells and B cells function,which lead to decreasing levels of serum CIC,but also to its Anti-inflammatory action similar to that of hydrocortisone.
