Abstract

Reading The Old Man and the Sea from the ecological approach, one will discover the dualistic nature concept of Hemingway. On the one hand,Hemingway affirms that nature is unconquerable and should be cherished and denounces men's ferocious dealing with nature;on the other hand,he calls for the mental triumph of man over nature from the anthropocentric standpoint. The paradox of Hemingway's nature concept is actually a reflection of the confusion of modem people when dealing with the relationship between man and nature.
