Abstract
OBJECTIVE To detect the expression of the glucocorticoid receptor-α(GR-α) mRNA in nasal polyps of patients and nasal mucosa of the inferior turbinate, ostiomeatal complex(OMC)of healthy adults. And to investigate the significance of GR-α in the initiation and progression of nasal polyps.METHODS The quantitative expression of GR-α mRNA in healthy nasal mucosa of the inferior turbinate,OMC and polyps were examined by using Fluorescent quantitative PCR(FQ-RT-PCR).RESULTS The GR-α mRNA level in normal mucosa of inferior turbinate[(135.4±5.2)×104 copies/μg ]was significantly higher than that of OMC[(114.7±4.3)×104 copies/μg](P0.01).The GR-α mRNA level in normal mucosa of inferior turbinate and OMC were significantly higher than that of nasal polyps[(23.5±12.1)×104 copies/μg](P0.01).With the development of the nasal polyps, the expression of the GR-α decreased.CONCLUSION Down regulation of the expression of GR-α mRNA in nasal mucosa might be an initiating factor of the progression of nasal polyps.
