Abstract
【Objective】 To investigate the expression of interleukin-1 beta(IL-1β) in cholesteatoma and to explore the possible roles of it in the formation and development of the middle ear cholesteatoma. 【Methods】We used the ELISA method to examine the level of IL-1β in epithelium in patients with middle ear cholesteatoma and 10 normal controls. 【Result】 IL-1β was 313.562 ± 52.924, 141.414 ± 31.335 pg/mL in 12 patients with middle ear cholesteatoma and 10 normal controls. The IL-1β levels in epithelium in patients with middle ear cholesteatoma were significantly higher than those in normal skin(P0.01). 【Conclusions】High level of IL-1β is found in the epithelium of cholesteatoma. IL-1β play an important role in the formation and development of cholesteatoma.
