Expression of Vimentin in renal cell carcinoma and its clinical significance

Objective To investigate vimentin expression in renal cell carcinoma(RCC) and its association with pathological stage,grade and prognosis.Methods 38 cases of renal cell carcinoma were analysed for vimentin expression by immunohistochemical method.Results The positive rate of vimentin expression in RCC was 78.9%,while it was 5% in normal renal tissue,There was the significant difference between RCC and normal tissue(P0.001);Up-regulation of Vimentin expression in RCC associated with poor prognosis,progressive clinical stage(P0.05) and high pathological grade(P0.05).Conclusion Overexpression of vimentin may help to diagnose and may be as an indicator to stage,grade and predict outcome in RCC.It will be available for postoperative adjuvant treatment in RCC.
