Abstract
Aim:To detect the expression of E-cadherin and N-cadherin in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissue. Methods:PV immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of E-cadherin and N-cadherin in 62 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (36 cases of male,26 cases of female;33 cases of ≥60 years old,29 cases of 60 years old; differentiation:15 cases of grade Ⅰ,25 cases of grade Ⅱ,22 cases of grade Ⅲ; invading:7 cases of shallow level,55 cases of deep level; 20 cases with lymphatic metastasis,42 cases without lymphatic metastasis),31 cases of adjacent atypical hyperplasia epithelium, and 62 cases of normal esophageal epithelium tissue. Results:The positive expression rates of N-cadherin decreased in the sequence of carcinoma, adjacent atypical hyperplasia, and normal esophageal tissue, which were 75.8%(47/62),61.3%(19/31),29.0%(18/62),respectively(P0.05),while those of E-cadherin increased in sequence, which were 40.3%(25/62),71.0%(22/31),and 95.2%(59/62)(P0.05). Both positive expression rates of N-cadherin and E-cadherin in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissue were related to the invasion, differentiation, and lymph node metastasis(P0.05). There was a significant negative correlationship between the expression of E-cadherin and N-cadherin(r=-0.534,P0.05).Conclusion:The increased expression of N-cadherin and decreased expression of E-cadherin are related to the invasion and metastasis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
