Abstract

The appropriate conditions for the reaction of zinc with a new chromogenic reagent 5-(4-carboxylazo)-8-hydroxy-quinoline(5-CPAHQ) in the presence of CTMAB are investiged. The results show stable red complex is formed from the reaction of zinc with 5-CPAHQ in the pH range of 4.6~5.8 .The maximuh absorption peak of the complex is at 500 nm.The apparent molar absorption coefficient is 8.33×10 4 L·mol -1 ·cm -1 .Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0-16 μg Zn(Ⅱ)/25 mL.The method is used for the determination of trace zinc in human hair with satisfactory results.
