Abstract

Objective:To investigate the effect of losartan on left ventricular hypertrophy and attenuated diastolic function in hypertension. Methods:Thirty two essential hypertension patients (WHO class Ⅱ) were treated with losartan for eight weeks.Plasma renninactivity, angiotensin Ⅱ (AngⅡ), aldosterone and procollagen Ⅲ were determined. The left ventricular mass and ventricular function were monitored by color Doppler cardiography. Results:Levels of aldosterone and PCⅢ decreased significantly. The ratio of peak velocity at rapid filling (E) and atrial contraction (A) increased. The thickness of interventricular septum (IVS)and posterior wall, left ventricular mass index were not altered. Conclusion:Blood pressure, PCⅢ and the diastolic function were improved after the treatment by losartan.
