Effect of swertamarin on gastric ulcer induced by alcohol in mice

Abstract

Objective:To explore the effect of swertamarin(SW) on gastric ulcer induced by alcohol in mice.Methods:Acute gastric ulcer was induced by oral administration of dehydrated alcohol in mice.SW(96 and 48mg·kg-1) was ip administrated once a day for 5 days.The ulcer index,ulcer inhibition rate,gastric acids and pepsin activity were determined.Results:SW significantly reduced the ulcer index and gastric pepsin activity(P0.01) after acute gastric ulcer.The ulcer inhibition rate in SW 96mg·kg-1 group was near that in the positive control group(ranitidine 50mg·kg-1).Conclusion:Swertamarin can protect the stomach mucosa against injury induced by alcohol in mice.
